Approximately 20 years ago, while working in the restaurant equipment business outfitting and designing commercial kitchens, I identified an historic moment. I give credit for the whole idea of putting a commercial stove in the home to a set designer in Hollywood working on the TV sitcom "Family Ties", starring Michael J. Fox. Knowing a person that worked for US Range, I can tell you that they were flooded with calls about the TV show's stove. Because of this instant national exposure, my business along with all restaurant supply companies started selling many commercial ranges into homes. (This practice was allowed for years until the building codes, insurance companies, and inspectors got wise to the potential hazard of a true restaurant stove installed next to wood cabinets and under weak or absent hoods, but the ball was rolling.)
